Estimate cloud base altitude from temperature and dew point readings.
Cloud base altitude can be estimated from the spread between temperature and dew point. The general rule: 400 feet per degree Celsius of spread. A 10 degree spread suggests 4000 ft cloud base. USPA recommends cloud base above 3000 ft AGL for formation skydiving.
